When Your Headshot Becomes an Author Photo

There's a moment in this work that never gets old. It's the moment a client reaches out to tell you they're using your photo on the cover of their book.
It happened again this month. Anna Barnhill, an ICF Master Certified Coach and faculty member at MIT Professional Education, just published [Leaderwired: The AI-Era Leadership Playbook for Transforming How You Think, Decide and Lead](https://www.amazon.com/Leaderwired-AI-Era-Leadership-Playbook-Transforming/dp/B0GQD6YZKC/ref=zg_bsnr_g_2675_d_sccl_28/000-0000000-0000000?psc=1). I photographed Anna in September 2024, and I've been following her journey on LinkedIn ever since. When she shared the news about her book, I immediately noticed something familiar. My photo. Right there on the author page. The image we created together in my Gilbert studio is now representing her to readers around the world.
That's the thing about a great headshot. You never know where it's going to end up.
From Headshot Session to Podcast Guest
When I saw what Leaderwired was about, something clicked for me beyond the photography. As Public Relations Manager for the podcast [Speak Arizona](https://speakarizona.com/), I'm always looking for guests whose work aligns with what we talk about: leadership, communication, and the courage to grow. Anna's book is exactly that. So I connected her with our host, Rupesh Parbhoo, and she accepted the invitation to be a guest. [The episode was fantastic.](https://speakarizona.com/news/leadership-approach-breaking-you-anna-barnhill/) Rupesh and Anna dove deep into why the strengths that built your career can quietly become the things holding you back.
From headshot session to published author to podcast guest. That's the kind of full-circle story that reminds me why I love what I do.
Three Authors. Three Books. Three Headshots.
And Anna isn't alone. Just yesterday I got a phone call from Ajay R. Gawali, author of Unlock Your Decision DNA: Decode and Elevate Your Decisions In The AI Era. He's using my photo for his book too. And Guacy Barnes, author of Mandalas of Healing, is doing the same.
Three authors. Three books. Three headshots from this studio.
Where Your Headshot Ends Up
When someone sits in front of my camera at my Gilbert studio, I'm not just thinking about good light and a natural expression. I'm thinking about where this image is going to live. On LinkedIn, yes. On a website, absolutely. But sometimes it ends up on a book jacket, on a podcast page, in a Forbes article. Your headshot becomes the visual identity for every stage of your career, including the ones you haven't reached yet.
That's why I take it seriously. And that's why moments like these mean so much to me.
If you're working on a book, building a speaking career, or simply ready for a headshot that can keep up with where you're going, I'd love to work with you.
A bientôt, Marie
